Each pet patient begins their experience in our lobby, and the time spent in this area can make or break the rest of their appointment. Unnecessary stress or excitement can result in a less cooperative pet, but a positive lobby experience can lead to a much more productive exam.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Practicing good veterinary hospital lobby etiquette not only keeps people and pets safe, it also serves as the first step to creating a positive experience for you, your pet, and everyone else who enters our building.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Veterinary Hospital Lobby Etiquette<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The lobby is a confined space, and while many of the pets you encounter will be friendly, keep in mind that others may be sick, in pain, frightened, or all three. Keep the peace with the following tips:<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Dogs on leashes<\/strong> \u2013 Dogs are naturally curious, which is why we recommend keeping your dog leashed at all times in the lobby. Leashes should not exceed 6 feet in length (please no retractable leashes!).<\/li><li><strong>Cats in carriers<\/strong> \u2013 The safest place for a cat is always in a carrier, preferably one made from hard plastic. Small dogs should also be transported in carriers if it makes them feel safe.<\/li><li><strong>Puppies and kittens <\/strong>\u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rocklinranchvet.com\/blog\/the-principles-of-puppy-and-kitten-wellness-exams\/\">Puppies and kittens<\/a> who haven\u2019t been fully vaccinated are at risk for contracting a number of communicable diseases. Because of this, they should be carried while in the parking lot to avoid stepping where other pets may have gone to the bathroom. Don\u2019t allow your young pet to interact with other animals until they have received all their shots.<\/li><li><strong>Skip the meet-and-greet<\/strong> \u2013 Regardless of how friendly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rocklinranchvet.com\/blog\/good-manners-good-fun-dog-park-etiquette-101\/\">your pet and other pets<\/a> in the lobby may seem, allowing animals to interact in the lobby can result in trouble. That\u2019s why it\u2019s best to skip the introductions for now.<\/li><li><strong>Pay attention<\/strong> \u2013 The waiting area is a busy place, and circumstances can change quickly and suddenly. It\u2019s important for all pet owners to be aware of their environment and know what their pet is doing at all times. We recommend putting away smartphones and other devices during this time.<\/li><li><strong>No unattended pets<\/strong> \u2013 This one probably goes without saying, but pets should never be left by themselves in the waiting area. If you need to use the restroom or retrieve something from your car, please either bring your pet with you or ask us for assistance.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Fostering a safe and calm environment for all our patients is our top priority.
