And, while there are numerous factors that correlate with the disease in cats and dogs, pet diabetes is most often linked to age and obesity.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In observance of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.petdiabetesmonth.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">National Pet Diabetes Month<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, we at <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rocklinranchvet.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rocklin Ranch Veterinary Hospital<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> want to cover some of the steps to preventing diabetes as well as how you can help your diabetic pet live the healthiest life possible.<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<h3><b>Causes of Pet Diabetes<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Just like us, as our pets grow older they become more susceptible to disease and age-related conditions. That is why <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rocklinranchvet.com\/about-us\/veterinarians.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">veterinarians<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> emphasize the importance of more frequent physical exams for <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rocklinranchvet.com\/pet-health\/senior-pet-care.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">pets 6-7 years of age and older<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As suggested, while certain factors play a role in a pet developing diabetes, such as breed and chronic pancreatitis, weight seems to be a key determinant to this disease.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rocklinranchvet.com\/blog\/obese-pets-risks-and-remedies\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Obesity in pets<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is attributed to numerous health problems by creating a greater toll on the systems of the body \u2013 beginning with the cells.
