To ensure a paw-friendly Halloween this year, we invite you to learn more about these potential dangers and how to avoid an unwanted scare this October.<\/span><!--more--><\/p>\n<h3><b>10 Halloween Pet Hazards<\/b><\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Chocolate <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2013 This creamy treat is one of the most common causes of pet poisoning. The toxic ingredients in chocolate are known as methylxanthines and can cause vomiting, diarrhea, rapid heart rate, and seizures.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Candy <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2013 Most sugary candies can make your pet quite sick, and sugar-free options often contain a highly toxic substance known as Xylitol. This chemical can lead to hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), seizures, and even liver failure.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Alcohol <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2013 Although it may seem like an unlikely suspect, pets sometimes do imbibe when a beverage is left unattended. Alcohol can cause a range of symptoms, including increased heart rate, vomiting\/retching, low blood pressure, and collapse.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Lit candles <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2013 Although festive, lit candles can lead to singed whiskers and tails, as well as pose a serious burn risk to curious pets. If your pet is sensitive to noise or strangers, consider keeping him or her in a quiet, comfy area until the festivities are over.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rocklinranchvet.com\/blog\/keeping-your-pet-escape-artist-from-going-on-the-run\/\"><b>Escape<\/b><\/a> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2013 With all the commotion at the front door, many pets will seize the opportunity to make a mad dash outside. Be mindful of your pet\u2019s whereabouts during the night, and consider keeping your fur friend in an area well away from doors or gates.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><b>Costumes <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2013 While Spot looks great in that sushi roll costume, is he really enjoying the attention or suffering from the uncomfortable get-up?
